Capita to create 200 jobs in Glasgow

One of Scotland’s largest private sector employers, Capita plc, is to invest almost £11 million and create over 200 new jobs in Glasgow, First Minister Alex Salmond announced today (September 27, 2014).

Capita plc already employs around 5000 people in Scotland in areas including IT, telecoms, utilities and financial services, working with a wide range of clients such as Prudential, Scottish Power and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

The organisation plans to invest almost £5 million expanding Capita Customer Management Ltd (CCM) in Scotland and a further £6 million growing its IT services division in Scotland. As a result, over 200 new jobs will be created across the two businesses based at Skypark in Glasgow.

Meeting Capita’s Gordon Lee, as part of business engagement programme during the Ryder Cup, the First Minister said:

“Scotland’s performance in the finance and business sector continues to go from strength to strength and Capita’s multimillion pound investment is further evidence of the confidence in our workforce.

“International companies estimate general cost savings of around 30-40 per cent can be achieved in Scotland when comparing similar operational, property and employment costs to London. In fact, the most recent Ernst and Young survey revealed Scotland once again as the top destination in the UK for foreign direct investment, outperforming every other part of the UK.

“Capita, as one of our largest employers, already employ thousands of people across Scotland and I welcome their commitment to create an additional 200 jobs in Glasgow and the number of other ventures planned in coming years.”

Gordon Lee, business development director at Capita plc, said:

“Our presence in Scotland has grown significantly in the last few years and this investment demonstrates Capita’s continued focus in the country. We look forward to building on this, helping our customers transform their business delivery, creating even more jobs in the future and supporting local communities over the coming years.”

Scottish Enterprise chief executive, Lena Wilson, acknowledged Capita’s substantial presence in Scotland, saying:

“Capita is a major employer in Scotland, employing over 5,000 people in 12 different business operations across 18 different locations Scotland-wide.

“The company’s decision to invest a further £10.9 million in Scotland is testament to our strengths in skills and cost effectiveness in the financial and business services sector to support its high value operations. Scotland’s enterprise agencies will continue to work closely with the company, at a strategic level, offering advice and support to deliver its long term growth ambition.”
