Coca‑Cola Enterprises Ltd announces £5.4 Million investment in East Kilbride

Coca‑Cola Enterprises Ltd (CCE) is demonstrating its commitment to manufacturing in Scotland with a £5.4 million investment programme at its East Kilbride manufacturing site.

One of the key investments is the introduction of a new energy‑efficient bottle blowing facility that will produce lightweight PET bottles, reducing the amount of plastic required, and allowing for future capability to continue to reduce the weight of these packs. A state‑of‑the-art packaging machine has also been installed, which removes the need to use cardboard in multi-packs of products, and will increase the volume of Coca-Cola products made in Scotland by 1.3million cases.

The introduction of this new technology has enabled CCE to make a significant investment in its people, through an extensive training and upskilling programme.

John McCafferty, Manufacturing Operations Manager of CCE East Kilbride, said: "We are committed to manufacturing in Scotland, and are proud of the investment in the East Kilbride site. The £5.4m investment is critical to developing our business in line with our fundamental objective to grow more, while minimising our impact on the environment."

CCE is working with Scottish Enterprise to maintain East Kilbride as one of the leading areas of Scottish manufacturing. .

Lena Wilson, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, said: "The decision by Coca‑Cola Enterprises Ltd to further its commitment to Scotland through this investment is testament to the attraction Scotland continues to have as the ideal place to do business.

"Increasingly, businesses have a range of options when it comes to deciding where to locate and the competition has never been fiercer. It's our job at Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International to make sure that companies are aware that investors know about the real benefits Scotland has to offer and that they are confident that we can compete on a global scale.

"We look forward to continuing to work with CCE to help further realise its ambitious growth plans in Scotland."

97.5% of CCE products sold in Great Britain are made in Great Britain. The investment at its East Kilbride manufacturing facility forms a crucial part of CCE's strategy to grow its business whilst reducing the impact of its operations on the environment, with sustainable innovation at the heart of an overall £50m programme across three of its sites ‑ Wakefield, East Kilbride and Sidcup.
