Fife Energy Week to showcase Scotland's energy potential

A week long programme of events geared to capitalise on the unique attributes for the renewables and associated energy sectors in Scotland, will take place next week during the inaugural Fife Energy Week 2008.

Running from 10 to 17 March, the highlight of the week will be a two day Fife Energy Conference, titled Realising Scotland's Energy Potential. The event, which is being hosted by Scottish Enterprise at the Fairmont in St Andrews, aims to highlight the unique opportunity which exists for Scotland to be a world leader in the development and implementation of renewable energy technologies.

Providing a showcase for current and future developments in marine renewable energy and energy storage technologies the conference will consider some of the key energy issues for Scotland.

With presentations from the Scottish Government, ITI Energy, technology developers and Scottish Enterprise, the event will also launch several key initiatives for the sector including a Technology Transfer Programme to support Scottish engineering firms diversify into new energy markets and the Fife Engineering Directory, a one stop shop for supply chain requirements in Fife's engineering sector.

Alongside other events taking place which will look at property and investment solutions to support the energy sector, Green Business Fife's business environmental networking group, which is co-ordinated by Fife Council's Development Services, will host a Biomass Seminar.

This event will provide companies with all the information they will need to know about biomass technology and whether this renewable energy source is suitable for their business. Delegates will hear from Alastair Nicol, a biomass expert, who will talk about the advantages and issues associated with biomass energy. Other speakers include Neil Martin from Turley Associates who will discuss the Longannet project and David Stutchfield, energy officer with St Andrews University, who will present their proposals for a biomass CHP (Combined Heat and Power) plant for their buildings. It will take place on Thursday 13 March at the Rufflets Hotel in St Andrews
