First Life Sciences investment from Singapore in Scotland

Clinnovate Health UK Ltd will become the first life sciences company from Singapore to invest in Scotland, when it launches its Genesis Imaging Services (GIS) laboratory in Glasgow tomorrow (Wednesday 29th March).

Clinnovate Health offers histology and genomics services for the clinical research market in areas of fibrosis and cancer. It will test and develop its kidney imaging system for transplant histological assessment at the laboratory, in University of Glasgow’s new Imaging Centre of Excellence at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The Singapore High Commissioner, Her Excellency Ms Foo Chi Hsia, is visiting Scotland to officiate the opening of Clinnovate Health GIS laboratory facility, as part of the launch of the new Imaging Centre of Excellence. This is being held in conjunction with Glasgow University’s “Imaging, Innovation and Impact” Industry Day, where she will be joined by a wider delegation of Singapore medtech companies looking to explore opportunities in Scotland.

Linda Hanna, Managing Director of Strategy & Sectors at Scottish Enterprise, which has supported Clinnovate through Scotland’s inward investment agency Scotland Development International, said:

“Our world-class expertise in Life Sciences is becoming increasingly acknowledged on the global stage and Clinnovate Health’s decision to invest in Scotland is a further testament to this.

“Scotland and Singapore are both regarded as world leading centres for biomedical research and it is great to see growing interest in collaboration between our two countries. As part of Glasgow University’s Imaging Centre for Excellence, Clinnovate Health will be at the forefront of medical innovation and we look forward to continuing to support its growth within Scotland.”

Serene Lek, CEO of Clinnovate Health UK Ltd said: “We are excited to be located at the heart of the Precision Medicine Ecosystem within the University of Glasgow of which we see great synergy with the various entities, given that we focus on both integrative diagnostics and personalised treatment. It has since helped us to accelerate partnerships with a number of groups within Scotland and the NHS who are carrying out clinical research into cancer, fibrosis and kidney transplantation.”
