Glasgow HQ for Scotland’s first legal outsourcing company

Scotland’s first centre for legal process outsourcing (LPO) will bring 21 new jobs to Glasgow thanks to NewGalexy Services Ltd (NGSL) and Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) support from Scottish Enterprise.

NewGalexy provides legal services to large corporations and legal firms worldwide and has bases in London, Chicago and India. It has chosen Scotland as the base for its European operations.

Legal process outsourcing is part of an industry worth up to $1bn worldwide and growing at around 30% a year. NewGalexy’s decision to expand its existing offshore LPO business by establishing an onshore LPO business in Glasgow means Scotland’s legal knowledge and expertise will become part of that global market, and will be exported to new markets across the European continent.

Robert Glennie, NewGalexy’s co-founder and executive chairman said: “I am delighted that of the various European locations we explored, Scotland has come out on top.

“Support from Scottish Development International was a key component in our decision to build our new onshore LPO business in Glasgow.

“Increasingly, European legislation will drive businesses to consider alternatives to offshoring legal work – and we are greatly encouraged by the enthusiastic support existing and potential new customers have given us as we launch this new, onshore facility.

“There is clear market demand for this development – and Scotland has an excellent pool of legal talent which could make it a leading base for LPO services.”

NewGalexy’s early focus will be on managed legal support services to law firms; legal risk management and supporting delivery of legal services to business sectors like banking and finance; engineering and construction and technology, media and telecommunications.

Scottish Development International worked closely with the company to bring the investment to Glasgow.

Anne MacColl, chief executive of Scottish Development International said:

“Legal process outsourcing has a huge global market, and this investment will build on Scotland’s world-renowned reputation for legal expertise as well as creating new jobs, said.

“RSA funding is one of the key tools we have to encourage both indigenous and overseas companies to invest in Scotland and we look forward to continuing to work with NewGalexy to support and grow their operations here.”

Sarvarth Misra, NewGalexy’s co-founder and executive director added: “Our new delivery centre in Glasgow will use technology and processes to provide innovative higher end LPO services, rather than back-office services.

“We will use the new centre to further develop the existing business sectors on which we focus and to provide managed legal support services to law firms and in-house legal teams, allowing them to reduce costs and utilise their lawyers more effectively.

“We expect to grow to more than 50 lawyers over the next few years.”

Notes to editors

  1. Legal Process Outsourcing is the practice of using technology to take cost out of legal tasks and transactions, and to add business efficiencies by splitting complex legal matters into those elements that can be handled in-house and those which could be undertaken by a LPO provider.

The practice has been widely adopted by businesses, law firms and other commercial organisations all over the world. The main providers of offshore LPO services are in India, followed by the Phillipines and South Africa.

Research commissioned by Scottish Development International, a joint venture between the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, has identified the LPO sector as a growth opportunity for Scotland.

  1. NewGalexy Partners Ltd (NGPL) is a specialised international legal support service provider, delivering legal services in innovative ways to large international corporations and law firms. Its practice is deliberately focussed on matters many in-house counsel and law firms find hard to complete efficiently and cost-effectively. NewGalexy is headquartered in London, UK and has delivery centres in India and the US. More information about NewGalexy can be found at www.newgalexy.com
