Grangemouth development site disposal paves way for Asda investment

A 36 acre strategic development site in Grangemouth is to be transformed into one of the most energy efficient and sustainable distribution facilities in the UK.

Chemical company, CalaChem and economic development agency, Scottish Enterprise disposed of land at the Earls Gate Park 2 site to make way for the 475,000 sq.ft facility.

Work is already underway by site developer Bericote Properties to construct the new distribution facility which will replace supermarket giant Asda's existing nearby distribution services. The development is a key part of Asda’s ambitious expansion plans which are expected to create around 5000 jobs this year as part of a £500 million expansion drive, resulting in 25 new stores, 43 store refurbishments and three new state-of-the art depot across the UK.

The facility is expected to be complete by September 2012 and will create 150 new jobs and safeguard 450 existing jobs.

CalaChem is a leading large scale fine chemicals contract manufacturing company providing products and site services to customers in the agrochemical, biocides, pharmaceutical and specialist chemical sectors. CalaChem is also the owner and operator of Earls Gate Park, a successful, unique joint development with Scottish Enterprise of a specialist industrial and business park.

Ryden facilitated the disposal of 68 acres and five buildings totalling 75,000ft2, 12 acres are currently under offer with only three serviced development plots remaining available on Earls Gate Park 1. Ryden are also actively marketing Earls Gate Business Park, where flexible office and laboratory accommodation is available for immediate occupation.
