Helping businesses in the South of Scotland learn from success

Businesses in the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway will come together to share their successes today (Monday 7th March).

The Scottish Enterprise “Success worth Sharing” events will bring together 29 of the regions’ most ambitious companies to share experiences and best practice.

The companies will also have the opportunity to hear more about what Scottish Enterprise is doing to help businesses like theirs grow by increasing innovation and investment and targeting new global markets.

The key speaker at the Borders' event is David McHoul, commercial director of Syntropharma in Dumfries and Galloway, companies will hear from local company Gates Power Transmission Ltd. Scottish Enterprise has worked closely with both of these companies to help identify and implement growth opportunities.

Attendees will also hear from Crawford Gillies, chairman of Scottish Enterprise about its work to drive economic growth.

Speaking ahead of today's event Crawford Gillies said: “We’re working closely with companies across Scotland to help them raise their game and develop Scotland’s long-term economic growth. To help achieve this we’ve placed a lot of emphasis in today’s events on Scotland’s leadership and ambition as key drivers to our economic success.

“These events are just one step towards helping companies boost the Scottish economy and will hopefully encourage businesses to gain the confidence and drive they need to take that next step in making their ambitions a reality.”

Alistair McKinnon, regional director in the South of Scotland at Scottish Enterprise, said: “These are difficult times but we know that local companies have a lot more positive stories to tell than might be expected.

“We're pleased to bring companies together to share their stories at today's event. All of the businesses attending will have the opportunity to hear from our speakers and learn something new. They'll also have the chance to meet and build new relationships with other local businesses.

“We believe we can make a real difference to Scotland's economy by working with our most ambitious companies to help them achieve their goals."

These events are part of a series across Scotland to encourage local businesses to come together and share their successes. Scottish Enterprise has put together the series of networking events across the country over the next two months. The next event will be held in Dundee this Thursday (10th March).
