Helping Glasgow's businesses learn from success

Businesses in Glasgow will come together to share their success at a special networking event in the city today (Friday 25th February 2011).

The Scottish Enterprise “Success worth Sharing” event will bring together 50 of the West of Scotland’s most ambitious companies to share experiences and best practice.

The companies will also have the opportunity to hear more about what Scottish Enterprise is doing to help companies like theirs to grow by increasing innovation and investment and targeting new global markets.

Key speakers at the Glasgow event include Sally Pulvertaft, managing director of International Correspondence Schools and Mark Hanson, business unit manager at Linn Products – two companies Scottish Enterprise has worked closely with to help identify and implement growth opportunities.

They will also hear from Lena Wilson, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise about its work to drive economic growth.

Speaking ahead of the event Lena Wilson said: “We developed today’s event after businesses told us they would find it helpful to hear directly from like minded companies about how they’ve dealt with particular situations or how they’ve explored new opportunities.

“One area we are strongly focused on is Scotland’s leadership and ambition, and we are working closely with companies across Scotland to help them raise their game and make a lasting contribution to our economic growth.

“Today’s event is just one step towards achieving this and will hopefully help companies gain the confidence and drive they need to take that next step in making their ambitions a reality.”

Jill Farrell, regional director in the West of Scotland at Scottish Enterprise, said: “We’re still operating in a tough economic climate and we've all learned some tough lessons. Events like these can help us all share our experiences, make those invaluable face-to-face introductions and build important relationships with other successful businesses.

‪“By working with Scotland’s most ambitious companies to achieve their goals Scottish Enterprise can have the biggest impact in Scotland’s economic recovery and future growth.”

This event is the first in a series across Scotland to encourage local businesses to come together and share their successes. Scottish Enterprise has put together a series of networking events across the country over the next two months.
