Scotland’s leading life sciences companies and individuals were recognised last night, Thursday 5 February, at the Scottish Enterprise Life Sciences Annual Dinner 2009.

Four awards were made to the most innovative medical and pharmaceutical companies and individuals in Scotland at the event, which took place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

Over 700 representatives from the life sciences community in Scotland and worldwide were present to congratulate BioOutsource, Charles River Laboratories, Professor Sir Philip Cohen and Dr Alastair Cozens for their contribution to the industry.

Rhona Allison, director of Life Sciences at Scottish Enterprise, said: “The winners of this year’s awards represent the ongoing success of the entire life sciences industry in Scotland, both new companies and those at a later stage of maturity, and individuals.

“The industry now comprises over 620 organisations and contributes over £3 billion to the Scottish economy annually. Scotland has established a strong international reputation based on the quality of its work and opportunities for innovation and collaboration remain, giving this sector room to grow further in 2009. Scottish Enterprise and all those involved will continue to work hard to support a joined up environment where such excellence can prosper.”
