NEoN lights up the city

A ground-breaking digital arts festival that will showcase the world’s best technologies and studios alongside artists from interactive, online, videogame, music, movie, broadcast and digital media sectors takes place in Dundee from the 13th-15th November.

NEoN (North East of North) is the UK’s first all-encompassing digital media event, bringing together some of the most prominent figures in the global digital arts industry including Bud Luckey, character designer for Disney Pixar; Microsoft’s Paolo Barone and Dave Jones, creator of Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings.

Throughout the festival, Dundee will play host to a wide range of seminars, workshops, forums and screenings aimed at those looking to further their career in digital media. There will also be a variety of entertaining fringe events across the city for all to attend including the only Scottish 2009 date of Video Games Live to be held at the Dundee Caird Hall on Sunday 15th November. Kicking off its European tour in Dundee, Video Games Live is an immersive concert created by the gaming industry featuring the soundtracks to video games from the past 40 years. Performed by the RSNO and an accompanying choir and combined with synchronized lighting, video, live action and audience interactivity, the event is a unique experience and the first of its kind.

Tommy Tallarico, creator of Video Games Live will also be in attendance at the Festival to offer expert guidance and advice to delegates. The Festival is the first time so many recognised and respected players active in the digital arts industry will be together in one place and offers delegates the unique opportunity to rub shoulders with the experts, advance their own skills and drop off their CVs directly to the gatekeepers of the industry.

Scottish Enterprise works closely with the digital media sector in Scotland. Charlie Stewart, Director of Company Growth Innovation and Commercialisation, Scottish Enterprise said:

"Digital media companies, high growth start-ups, indie developers, creators, designers, writers, producers, coders, artists, animators, fans, games, viewers, readers and students will all get something new, useful and exciting from this unique festival.

NEoN will help companies, individuals and organisations expand their knowledge, find inspiration and turn their ideas into reality. Attendees will be able to pool ideas with other like-minded individuals, network, socialise, meet and learn from industry leaders, creative artists, entrepreneurs and other experts.

Such a prestigious event is testimony to Scotland and Dundee’s reputation as innovators and pioneers in the design and creation of digital media, further establishing the country as one of the word’s leaders in the digital and gaming industries."
