Phase 2 kicks off at Energy Park Fife

Following a competitive tendering process, Scottish Enterprise has announced the award of a major quayside upgrade contract, worth around £3 million, at Energy Park Fife to Glasgow-based civil engineering contractor George Leslie Ltd.

The upgrade will be undertaken as part of a £13 million investment, announced by Enterprise, Energy and Tourism Minister Jim Mather during a visit to the park in August last year, to help position Scotland as a world leader in advanced manufacturing for the renewable energy sector.

Linda McPherson, regional director at Scottish Enterprise said: “The Scottish Government has identified the renewable energy sector as a primary focus to address Scotland’s sustainable economic growth and Scottish Enterprise has an important role to play in ensuring Scotland can establish itself as a key location for offshore wind turbine manufacturing and construction operations.

“Upgrading the quayside at Energy Park Fife is critical in achieving this and will ensure the companies already based there have access to a high quality and competitive business environment to help them grow, as well as making the park attractive to new inward investors to Scotland.”

With deep water load out facilities and close proximity to the Scottish Territorial Water and Round 3 offshore wind farm sites in the North Sea, the 134-acre Energy Park is ideally placed to help Scotland capitalise on its offshore wind and tidal resources.  In addition it offers excellent engineering resource, world-class facilities and a highly skilled workforce.

The Energy Park forms an integral part of Scotland’s National Renewable Infrastructure Plan, published in February this year, and is expected to play a key role in developing a sustainable and long-term renewable energy industry for the future.

Energy Park Fife is a partnership project between Scottish Enterprise and Fife Council and is being showcased today (23 March) to more than 400 representatives from Scotland’s renewable energy industry at the Scottish Renewables Conference in Glasgow. Scottish Enterprise chairman Crawford Gillies will speak at the event, which is being attended by Fife Council’s economic development team.

Robin Presswood, development manager with Fife Council's Development Services said: "The Energy Park is a key location for offshore wind with five wind farm sites located within a short distance off the Fife coast. Clear opportunities exist for the companies based at the Energy Park and indeed elsewhere in Fife and on the east coast of Scotland."
