Saltire Foundation Secures Record Number of Internships
Over 60 Scottish students will leave the country on Monday (12 July) to undertake work experience at some of the world’s most successful multinational companies, thanks to the Saltire Foundation Internship Programme.
The 2010 programme will see 64 students travel to destinations including USA, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, where they will work with leading global companies to accelerate their confidence, skills and ambition.
The placements will involve them working on demanding projects of real commercial significance requiring them to network with senior level executives and embrace the working environment of these international organisations.
Irene Johnstone, director of international networks at Scottish Enterprise said “The calibre of applications this year has been staggering, and it has been a tough job deciding which of these students we should send off to fly the flag for Scottish business.
“We know that the investment we are making in these individuals will be repaid in the long term, as they help to create a more dynamic, ambitious and internationally competitive Scotland.
“Past experience also tells us that Saltire Foundation interns make a tremendous contribution to their host company as well as being fantastic ambassadors for Scotland.
“We know that this programme will be transformational for the interns, given that many of their predecessors have gone on to become high achievers and attribute their success to the opportunity provided by the Saltire Foundation.
“I wish all the students the very best and while it will be competitive, challenging and compelling, we know that it will be extremely rewarding.”
The Saltire Foundation is an independent charitable organisation supported by Scottish Enterprise to create the next generation of business leaders by offering invaluable learning opportunities and experiences.
This year, Saltire Foundation opportunities have been created through organisations including Aggreko Plc, IBM Corporation, Morgan Stanley, Quintiles Transnational Corporation and Jabil Circuit Inc. In many cases GlobalScots, operating at the top of these organisations, have made the opportunities possible.
The Saltire Foundation recently won a UK-wide national training award through the National Council for Work Experience (NCWE). It received a highly commended award for ‘Best Work Experience Provider as Nominated by a Student’ in March this year during a ceremony in London.
