Scotland’s Oil & Gas sector seeks new opportunities down under

Scottish companies share knowledge and innovation as part of trade mission to Australia

A delegation of 25 companies from Scotland are heading to Western Australia this week to tap into new opportunities in the region’s rapidly growing offshore oil & gas sector.

The companies will visit the Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference in Perth, the largest event of its type in Australia, to share their knowledge and innovative approaches to the offshore sector – as well as exploring into new trade opportunities.

Three of the companies taking part in the trade mission – WFS Technologies, Opus and QEM – will launch new products to Australia at the event, highlighting Scotland’s continuing role in innovation in the sector at a global level.

The Scottish Development International trade mission is the largest of its type from Scotland to Australia. The country’s offshore sector is currently experiencing rapid growth and those taking part in the delegation include experts in training, sub sea and downhole technology and software solutions.

The trade mission is being led by Scottish Enterprise Chief Executive Lena Wilson. Speaking about the opportunities in for Scottish companies in this market, she said:

“Scotland has developed world-leading knowledge and expertise since the first discoveries of oil & gas in our waters 40 years ago. We’ve built up a global reputation for our innovative response to the challenges of operating in the harsh conditions of the North Sea, particularly in areas such as deep water sub sea technologies, health & safety and quality standards.

“With the Australian oil & gas industry expected to spend up to £15.4 billion on new projects in the next five years alone, there are significant opportunities for our companies to share their knowledge and innovation with operators in Australian markets, while tapping into new export markets.”
