Scottish companies encouraged to do business in Turkey
Doing Business with Turkey’ at the Radisson SAS hotel was organised by Scottish Development International (SDI) in partnership with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).
The event offered companies practical advice and insights into doing business and investing in Turkey, which has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. The seminar was attended by more than 120 Scottish companies keen to learn how best to tap into opportunities within the Turkish business markets.
Nick Baird, the British Ambassador to Turkey addressed the seminar and provided a political and economic overview of the country. Delegates also received expert advice from SDI, UKTI and from Enterprise Europe Scotland on how to access the Turkish market. Senior representatives from The Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency also addressed the delegates and highlighted the various opportunities for Scottish companies. Colin Gordon, International Development at Cardonald College spoke about the Scottish experience of doing business with Turkey.
Anne MacColl, SDI director for Europe, Middle East & Africa said: “With the current economic slowdown it is more important than ever for Scottish companies to exploit new opportunities in international markets. Turkey is the fastest growing member of the OECD and is exactly the type of market we want to encourage Scottish companies to do business and invest in.”
The UK is the eight largest exporter to Turkey and more than 1,800 British companies currently operate in the country.
