Scottish company to help keep motorists moving
An East Lothian chemical sciences company is set for growth after announcing a new partnership with the AA, its first significant breakthrough into the vehicle maintenance and repair market in the UK.
Ambitious to grow, the company is also planning for international growth following new partner distribution agreements in export markets including the USA, China and Australia.
Dunbar-based XCP™ Corrosion Technologies, a trading division of Marott Graphic Services, decided 18 months ago to diversify its business into the vehicle maintenance and repair market for its XCP™ Professional range.
Following extensive testing by the AA of the XCP™ ONE™ product, a high performance multipurpose spray, they equipped their patrol vehicles and have given it their endorsement.
XCP™ Corrosion Technologies managing director, Scott Sutherland, sees this as a significant step in the company’s diversification plans. He said: “We are very confident in the performance of our products but it is always nice to have this ratified by users such as the AA, who use this type of product every day. It’s a great endorsement for the quality and high performance levels of the product and is a key building block in growing the brand and expanding the business both in the UK and in Europe.
“As a result of this success, we have made our first significant breakthrough into the vehicle maintenance market with a listing of the full range in Unipart Automotive, the UK’s largest motor factor.”
The AA’s manager roadside support services, Jan Labrooy, said: “We fully tested the XCP™ ONE™ product, and found that it out performed our existing product as well as some other products on the market. As such we had no hesitation in switching to and recommending XCP™ ONE™. This product is now available to all our 2000 AA Patrols, responding to over 3 million call-outs per year.”
XCP™ Corrosion Technologies is one of more than 200 chemical sciences companies in Scotland delivering £9.3 billion in revenue for the economy. Its exporting activities contribute to the £3.7 billion of exports generated by chemical sciences companies in Scotland every year.
Chemical Sciences Scotland chairman, Sandy Dobbie, congratulates the company on its international success. He said: “Exporting is key if we are to grow Scotland’s chemical sciences sector, which is why we’ve set ambitious targets of increasing our exporting activity by 50% by 2020.
“XCP™ is a great example of an ambitious growing company which recognises the benefits of entering new markets, both at home and overseas. The partnership with the AA is further evidence of the high quality products we produce in Scotland and Scott and his team should be very proud of this achievement.”
Scottish Enterprise head of chemical sciences, Caroline Strain, added: “Companies with growth ambition have to recognise the importance innovation can play in that journey. XCP™’s growth is testament to its innovative thinking which will help the company as it expands into new markets. I wish the company every success as it delivers its long term growth ambition.”
About Marott Graphic Services
Marott was established in the Netherlands in 1981 and moved to the UK in 1989. In 2008 it relocated to purpose-built premises in Dunbar as part of an expansion programme. It chose Dunbar based on its proximity to key members of staff and direct access to transport links to ensure the efficient movement of raw materials and finished goods.
While the company is diversifying into new markets it is also optimistic that it can continue to grow its business in the printing industry. It follows endorsements from companies including Manroland, which designs, builds and commissions printing plants for some of the biggest names in the publishing industry including News International, which prints The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times.
