Scottish Enterprise Borders supports Abbotsford House development

Scottish Enterprise Borders (SEB) has announced it is supporting Abbotsford House to achieve its goal of becoming a flagship tourism attraction for the Borders.

SEB is investing £14,000 to help support Abbotsford House in the first phase of its ambitious development plan.

The grant will be used to help improve and upgrade catering and retail facilities, develop new signage onsite and to create new marketing materials that will enable it to communicate the story of Abbotsford House and its links with Sir Walter Scott to a wider UK and international audience.

David Gass, Senior Director of Operations at Scottish Enterprise Borders, says: “We are delighted to be supporting Abbotsford House take its first step on what is a very exciting journey. This will enable them to improve their current operating model and help them get to a stage where they can offer an enhanced visitor experience. It will also help to build the foundations for their wider £8 million development plans, which will establish themselves as a five star tourism attraction.”

Jacquie Wright, Executive Manager  of Abbotsford House, said: “On behalf of the trustees of The Abbotsford Trust, I would like to thank Scottish Enterprise Borders for their very welcome support for  the operation at Abbotsford House. We are at the beginning of a journey towards our ultimate goal as a destination tourist attraction in the Borders, and this initial help will be invaluable.”
