Scottish Enterprise helps businesses go green

To help Tayside businesses respond to the economic downturn, Scottish Enterprise is running a programme of events which explore a range of business issues, concerns and management decisions. The events provide practical advice and insight on a range of topics, from leadership skills and sales and marketing techniques to business innovation and finance.

The final event in the series takes place at the Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee on the 7th May. ‘Green is the new Gold’ is designed to show attendees how streamlining their business resources and energy use can immediately reduce waste and expenditure, promoting the message that adopting green practices within business not only helps the environment but also adds significant value to bottom line profits.

Charlie Stewart, Director of Company Growth, Innovation and Commercialisation at Scottish Enterprise said “These events provide a unique opportunity for local Tayside businesses to gain first hand advice and practical guidance from industry experts. They allow companies to share their experiences, inspire and encourage each other and drive forward enterprise.

“Now more than ever, we need to tap into examples of new ways of thinking and innovative methods of approach. Companies that continually try out new ideas retain their competitive advantage and that’s something that we want to encourage in all Scottish businesses – large or small, start-up or established.”

Speakers at the event include:

David Douglas, Group Environmental Manager, Robert Wiseman Dairies
David has in-depth experience of cutting waste at Robert Wiseman Dairies and will detail case studies of Wiseman’s successful environmental programme. Offering practical advice that companies can develop themselves, David will also discuss Wiseman’s further plans to eliminate waste completely.

Andrew Mickel, Director Mactaggart & Mickel  (also Chairman of Homes for Scotland)
Andrew has extensive knowledge of managing existing land holdings and assessing the suitability of land across the Central Belt of Scotland for future developments.

Owen Barrett, Managing Director, Clyde Valley Drilling Ltd
Owen is founder of Clyde Valley Drilling Ltd, a company with a 50% share of its market. He will share his experience of delivering professional diamond drilling throughout Scotland and the North of England and will outline ways of staying green while building a successful company.

The event is free to all businesses across the region and up to four delegates per company are welcome.  Details of all events and online booking facilities are available at www.nowsthetimetoask.com or by calling 0800 141 2128.

The event is part of a programme of activity that Scottish Enterprise is running to help companies understand the support available to meet their business challenges and capitalise on new opportunities for growth that still exist.
