Scottish Enterprise welcomes approval for the Beauly to Denny upgrade

Line replacement needed to harness, transmit and export Scottish renewable energy.

The Scottish Government has announced that the Beauly to Denny power line upgrade has been approved.

The upgrade will boost grid capacity along the line and unlock Scotland's onshore and offshore renewables potential.

Extensive conditions have been imposed to protect the interests of communities and minimise the impact on the environment along the line.

Adrian Gillespie, Director, Energy and Low Carbon Technologies at Scottish Enterprise said:

"Scotland is leading the way in setting targets for carbon reduction and the Beauly to Denny upgrade will greatly increase Scotland’s capabilities in renewable energy by connecting power generation from wind, wave and tidal power across Scotland and beyond. Its development will further establish Scotland as an international role model in renewable energy and enhance Scotland’s reputation as a supportive and ambitious business environment with access to outstanding natural resources, a skilled workforce, world-leading technology and continued investment."
