Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) review comment

Scottish Enterprise comment following Deputy First Minister's update to Parliament on 25 June 2025.

A spokesperson for Scottish Enterprise said, “The Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes has today updated the Scottish Parliament on the review of Scottish Enterprise’s Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) checks, which are used to assess funding applications.

“This comprehensive review affirmed the strength of our existing processes while identifying areas for enhancement, reflecting the increasingly complex geopolitical landscape in which we operate.

“These improvements include strengthening checks relating specifically to the Export Control Act 2002, increasing the frequency of checks to better respond to emerging risks, developing a new internal digital platform to improve oversight and reporting, and establishing a senior review group to provide strategic input.

“We are committed to implementing these recommendations over the course of 2025/26 and will ensure businesses are informed of any changes as required.”
