TRICAPITAL Angels leads £865,000 investment into Scottish technology opening wind power to thousands of businesses
A Scottish clean-tech company developing small modular wind turbines that can be deployed in almost any location has secured £865,000 in seed funding, led by TRICAPITAL Angels
Myriad Wind Energy Systems, based in Stirling, has developed a patented, crane-free wind technology designed to open on-site wind generation to businesses and sites that have historically been unsuitable for wind due to cost, access, and installation complexity.
The investment round also includes backing from Scottish Enterprise, SFC Capital, and South East Angels, and will support the company as it moves from technology development into commercial deployment.
While solar and battery storage have become widely adopted, wind has remained underutilised at small and medium scale. Conventional turbines typically require specialist heavy lifting equipment, access roads, and have prolonged down-time making them impractical or uneconomic for many locations.
Myriad’s small modular turbine system removes these logistical barriers, enabling wind power to be deployed across a far wider range of sites - including rural businesses, farms, industrial estates, and off-grid infrastructure.
The Myriad Turbine uses multiple small rotors mounted within a modular framework that can be installed and maintained without cranes. This significantly reduces capital expenditure and enables reliable, year-round wind generation in locations where winter energy demand is high and solar output is limited.
The company holds two granted patents, has secured a number of letters of intent from prospective customers, and has seen strong interest in piloting the technology.
A 50kW prototype is scheduled for installation in 2026, followed by commercial pilot deployments and a full market launch.
The funding will be used to build out Myriad’s commercial and engineering teams, deploy its first-of-a-kind prototype, and secure manufacturing and supply chain partnerships.
Adam Harris, CEO of Myriad Wind Energy Systems, said: “Winter energy costs are crippling for rural businesses, and solar simply doesn't deliver when they need it most.
“There's massive demand for local clean energy that works year-round, but traditional small-wind has been held back by poor economics and installation complexity.
“With the backing of TRICAPITAL Angels, Scottish Enterprise along with our other investors, we're ready to prove that our modular approach can finally unlock wind as a mainstream solution for distributed generation.”
Moray Martin, Chief Executive of TRICAPITAL Angels, said: “Myriad is addressing a global challenge with clear commercial potential.
“Small-wind has been a missing piece of the decentralised energy puzzle, and we believe Myriad has the technology and team to lead this emerging market.
“What excites us is the combination of strong IP, a genuinely differentiated engineering solution, and a clear route to market. This is not incremental innovation — it’s a rethink of how wind power can be deployed at scale for businesses that need reliable, year-round clean energy.”
Derek Shaw, Director of Entrepreneurship and Investment at Scottish Enterprise, said: “The energy transition is one of Scotland’s most exciting economic opportunities. Myriad’s innovative technology has significant commercial potential to support businesses in becoming more sustainable and less reliant on fossil fuels.
“By investing in scaling Scottish companies like Myriad we aim to create high-value, high-quality jobs and empower them to compete and lead in global markets.”
