US-based Brightree celebrates launch of new Glasgow office
GlobalScot planning to create 100 software jobs at centres of excellence in Scotland
US-based company Brightree, one of the largest providers of cloud-based clinical and business management solutions to home health, hospice, home medical equipment (HME) and pharmacy providers, has officially launched its new Glasgow office with an event attended by Jamie Hepburn, Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health and Neil Francis, international operations director, Scottish Enterprise.
It is a move that is expected to create upwards of 100 high-value software development jobs over the next two years, as part of a planned investment of approximately US$50million over the next four years in Scotland.
At the helm of the company, and also in attendance at the event, was GlobalScot Dave Cormack, the Brightree CEO and President. A former director of Aberdeen Football Club, Mr. Cormack assumed the helm of Brightree in 2005 and has overseen the company as it has grown from a turnover of US$1million to US$120million and to a global headcount of 450.
Additionally, Mr. Cormack sits on the Board of Directors of The American Association of Homecare (AAHomecare), who is the voice for US homecare in Washington DC. AAHomecare lobbies Congress, the Administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other agencies on behalf of the US homecare community.
Mr Cormack recognised an opportunity in his homeland to add capacity to its US-based development team: “We recognised that tapping into the highly educated engineering skills base in Scotland would give us access to a wealth of talent in the fields of software development, and quality assurance, which are the cornerstones necessary for Brightree to deliver on its aggressive product expansion plans.”
“We were attracted to the Scottish work ethic and the world-class level of expertise. Our new team members here are working with modern state-of-the-art development tools and can easily collaborate with our team in the US to accelerate development of our industry-leading technology solutions.”
Jamie Hepburn, Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health commented: “I’m delighted to be at the opening of Brightree’s new Glasgow office to welcome this investment into Scotland.
“Encouraging global businesses like this to invest and expand here is a top priority for the Scottish Government. We have a thriving global business community in ICT that attracts talent from all over the world, and we’re continually investing in research that will drive the future through our world-class universities and innovation centres. I would like to congratulate Brightree on choosing to extend their operations in Scotland, and wish the team every success as they grow their business.”
Neil Francis, international operations director, Scottish Enterprise said: “Brightree’s decision to locate a second centre of excellence in Scotland not only demonstrates our competitiveness to inward investors, but also positions us well to play into the company’s global strategy for growth. We look forward to continuing our work with Brightree as they expand their operations here in Scotland.”
This is Brightree’s second centre of excellence development facility in Scotland, with the Aberdeen development centre having opened in 2012. Brightree’s Scottish presence has already led to the creation of 35 jobs.
Mr Cormack continued: “I am thrilled to be back in Scotland to officially launch our new Glasgow office. To be in the position where I can bring investment to my home country, and show the world that Scotland has outstanding technology talent, is a very proud moment for me.”
