World-leading international energy academy in Scotland

An attempt to pave the way for the creation of a world-leading International Energy Academy in Scotland to secure the industry's future and develop the skills and talent needed for it to prosper will be set out at the premier exhibition and conference for the oil and gas sector being staged in Aberdeen next week. (4 - 7 September 2007)

Delegates at Offshore Europe (OE) will be told of the ambition for a centre of excellence which would extensively involve industry and include a skills research centre, a career development centre and skills academies developed in partnership with the public and private sector.

Dr Ian Heywood, director of growing business and skills at economic development agency Scottish Enterprise Grampian, will set out the next steps being taken to turn the vision into a long-term reality in a presentation at OE 07.

Media are welcome to attend and a full news release will be issued on the day.

The concept behind the International Energy Academy was born of the Next Generation process, an initiative driven by Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Forum (ACSEF) to work with the private sector to identify projects aimed at securing the long-term future of the north-east's economy.

One of these projects is Energetica - a drive to create a world-class business, leisure and residential environment for all energies, extending from the Aberdeen Science and Energy Park at Bridge of Don (opposite Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre) stretching northward to Peterhead.
